Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Debuts, Unveiling Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo alongside Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the far corners of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some familiar faces, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Come Back and Grow
The feature will see the return of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his companions.
The company has a trio of new releases publicly declared for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
